Disappointing and awful product
I had been eyeing off this product for many months and since being given it for my birthday, I hate it. I've used it four times and I don't think I'll ever use it again.
It didn't come with any recipes, and the provided instructions are minimal and not very clear. I had to look up videos and instructions online as not even the KitchenAid website was helpful.
It takes a lot of space in the freezer. It's quite high so I have to remove the drawer to fit it in my freezer.
The drive assembly doesn't fit easily on the machine- it's meant to slide in but with the metal skirt it never sits flat and can take a few attempts to connect to the dasher.
When you have it all attached there is almost no space to pour in your mix. Unless you use a piping bag, it's very messy.
I have never been able to churn for the recommended 20-30 minutes. It gets stuck and starts skipping after about 10-12 minutes. My record is 15 minutes. It's also inconsistent at mixing. The bottom is always colder and stiffer, the middle section better churned but the top section has done hardly anything. The texture of the finished ice-cream is inconsistent as a result.
It's difficult to remove the ice-cream once churned. The dasher holds a lot of mixture and it's a fiddly shape to clean. The bowl is also quite deep and narrow so it's hard to get enough leverage to scrape out semi-frozen mix.
It's a great idea and it looks nice but it'd never recommend it to anyone. I find it hard to believe it has so many positive reviews.
Very messy. Uneven churning.
Very messy. The ooening is so small that pooring the mixture into to bowl is not easy and mixture goes everywhere. The icecream mixture went into the moving parts whi h is very difficult to clean. The first time we used it, the result was pretty good. The next ti.e, eventually it stopped churning is and just pushed frozen mixture around eithout actually mixing it. I wouldn't recomment it. Buy a propper icecream maker instead.
Makes delicious proper ice cream
Received my kitchen ice cream maker and after reading the instructions - put the ice cream bowl in the freezer overnight- I made my first ice cream batter using the vanilla ice cream recipe from kitchen aid. Following the instruction my mixer creamed the items together and then that went in the fridge overnight after cooling. The next day I slid the adapter and the paddle into the bowl. Setting the mixer on 4 for 20 minutes the batter turned into ice cream. I added some chopped Maltesers. Very easy to use and clean after. The ice cream is delicious. I have since made hibiscus and blackberry sorbet - I was worried about staining the bowl but I washed it straight away and it was fine. I put the bowl in a small white bin bag and keep it in the freezer ready for my next experiment - coconut rum ice cream. I am very pleased with the ice cream maker and as the bowl stays in the freezer the other two attachments just go with my other KitchenAid attachments. I would recommend, particularly as on offer at the moment.
