History
Sony can trace its history to the 1946 and the electronics shop built started by Masaru Ibuka in Tokyo. By 1958, the company had built the country’s first and tape recorder and changed their name to Sony. Other achievements were to follow, including the world’s first direct-view portable transistor TV in 1960, the Walkman personal stereo cassette tape player in 1979 and the first Handycam video camcorder in 1985. This zeal for invention continues, ensuring that Sony remains at the cutting edge in the 21st century.
